The global food supply chain faces a complex set of challenges. According to the UN’s prediction, the increase in the world’s population will increase food demand by around 70% by 2050. This demand will be augmented by the rapid expansion of the bioenergy sector.

In addition, the global food system will continue to degrade the environment and compromise the world’s capacity to produce food in the future.

Finally, food consumption habits (including food waste) could have a considerable impact on consumer health and well-being, as well as on primary production and the environment.

Agrifood UPC is a site that aims to show the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya’s commitment to tackling the challenges outlined above. Taking a multidisciplinary approach, the UPC is providing innovative solutions for society by using cutting-edge technologies
